Movie star and martial artist Jean-Claude Van Damme recently stepped in to help save the life of a young Chihuahua who faced euthanasia for no wrong doing of her own. The three-month-old pup was sold off to new owners in Norway but couldn’t be registered because of a fake Bulgarian passport. They wouldn’t let little Raya back citing European Union rules about transporting animals, so she was set to be put down.

Van Damme took to social media and posted images of him hugging his own Chihuahua pleading with them to change their minds.

“I beg, please, for my birthday, the food safety authority, change your decision.” he said as he launched a petition to save the Chihuahua.

“They made a mistake, the people who didn’t do the paper correctly … But they cannot kill that little Chihuahua,” Van Damme added.

The message was received loud and clear by the Bulgarian food safety authority who then allowed Raya’s return with the stipulation she undergo a medical check and then be put up for adoption. What a happy ending! 🙂
